Hi
Hope someone can help me, I just received my buildings/contents insurance renewal, to my horror it had doubled and my ncb which was 5 yrs last year should have gone up to 6yrs. I went to my local swinton office regarding this and they contacted the insurers, who said that it was a claim for £120 in April.
I had a flat roof which was leaking as their had been a lot of gales and the roof collapsed in my kitchen, I contacted the insurers and they were sending a surveyor round to see the damage, after about 2-3 weeks of messing me about the surveyor came but was quite rude and said that it was wear and tear and they wouldn't pay out, even for redecorating the kitchen, they sent a letter nearly a month after saying they wont pay it and that was the last i heard. until the renewal, it appears that the £120 claim was for paying the surveyor, which i had no knowledge of and wasnt aware that as they sent the surveyor, i had to pay him. is this right? can they do this? my ncb now has dropped to 3yrs on building and still 5yrs on contents, surely this should not have happened? can I appeal about this? I have to get a new insurance now and they informed me that I have to noticify any insurers that i go with. please can you help, before i lose it.

My interpretation (I am not an insurer or broker) would be that it is a "no claim bonus" not a "no blame bonus".
Bottom line is you made a claim, oK it was not validated/ paid out on, but you made a claim, your insurer incurred financial expenditure and that will be their take on it.
Maybe they would reinstate the NCD if you reimbursed them the £120, but you would still have a duty to notify other insurers you made a claim, which will affect your risk profile and therefore your premiums.0 -

"They" are correct.
When applying for insurance from other companies/brokers you do need to disclose this incident/loss when completing your history.0
