Painting interior brick

Hi I have an interior room that's just Plain brick, and house brick at that. Looks like it never has been treated or covered in any way. Looks like there is some mould on one part but doesn't feel damp.
I want to paint it, do I need a special masonary paint and should I seal it first?
Thanks

I used normal interior emulsion (that way the colour matched the rest of the room) but primed the bricks first with a coat of stabilising primer.

The PVA stops the bricks absorbing the moisture from the water and will stabiliser and loose mortar etc.
oh dear- pva glue and emulsion based paints are a recipe for disaster , it is common for paint to peel off pva'd walls , especially when you come to repaint , i've had this happen and the paint peeled off like wet wallpaper ,
if you want to seal the the bricks you can use zinsser bullseye 123 http://www.zinsseruk.com/product/bulls-eye-1-2-3/
then you can give it a couple of coats of emulsion0 -
Thanks, i've just checked what i used and actually it was a stabilising primer.
I checked because i've painted mine several times and never had any problems!0 -
I'd recommend an anti-alkaline primer (just in case theres the possibility of efflorescence) then just chuck some ordinary emulsion at it. Not literally of course.
