Santander 123 CC Full Direct Debit

Hi

I recently got the Santander 123 CC, I immediately set up for the full amount to be taken by DD and phoned to double confirm that it would be active from the first statement.

So statement balance was £822 and today they have taken £820.50 via DD.

I can't face phoning tonight so was going to phone in the morning to find out the reason for the difference but I thought I would post just in case they have some wierd and wonderful way of working out how much money to take and others have had experience of it.

I am half tempted to leave it and just phone if they try and charge me interest next statement - I hate phoning banks!

Thanks for any insight :)

Could the difference be your cashback? The front page of their website says:

Your cashback will be credited to your account each month.

It's possibly the cash back, or one of the final payments was after the cut off?

Or a £1.50 refund after statement date. How much did the statement state it would take ie "£822.00 will be taken by dd on or after xx oct 2012"
  • Ahh, a refund that might be it - will check. Cashback would have been a lot more than £1.50. Part of the problem is that I never received a proper statement as the e-document failed (well that's what I was told) and then they couldn't send out a paper one! I didn't bother arguing on the phone as you can see most of the information online without the actual statement.

Will have a look through and see if there is a refund :)
  • Yip, was a refund :) they must count them as payments and reduce the DD, never had a CC that does that before so good to know for future reference, thanks for ideas - saved me a phone call :)

refunds only tend to affect Full Direct debit Payments - as especially important if a larger refund was put through (e.g. wouldnt like paying few £100 extra if that had been refunded in the meantime)..

Minimum payment dd's are only affected if the refund is at least the previous full balance..

(Usually there is a cut off date at which the dd checks what the o\standing balance from previous statement is)..

As essentially this stops someone with a large balance buying and returning something each month to avoid making a payment..
