Credit score question - closing credit cards

Hi,

I have opened a credit card that I really don't need to use anymore - something changed and I no longer needed that credit facility.

Would it be of negative affect to my credit history/score to just close the account?

I've already got 2 other credit cards (one in regular day to day use and another for abroad spending). So I still have serviceable credit ongoing.

I think what is more important is the snapshot of your credit situation at a point in time, rather than the action of closing. If it's better in terms of debt to credit limit ratio and total amount of credit available with this new account in place, you should keep it. If having it open is detrimental then you should close it. Personally I would be inclined to keep it open regardless unless I wanted to apply for a different card and wanted it off my credit report before making a new application.
