    I too would expect them to eventually agree to see sense.

    As to my opinion, if you read the thread properly, it's mostly a statement of the facts so far.

    I don't think it is.
    There is a great deal of interpretation.
    For example.
    They refused to accept his cancellation

    Is your insterpretation.
    My interpretation is that he has refunsed to cancel.

    So two different interpretations of the same facts.

    Only someone with insurance experience of legal experience could properly comment on which interpretation the law would back.

    Nope.
    He asked to cancel.
    He refused to pay, not refused to cancel.
    If the insurers are that worried, they'll cancel, then pursue the debt as they would any other debt.

    Actually, from other threads, and FOS rulings, the normal route is to retain proof of ncd until the amount due is paid, so the insurer are behaving badly here as well.

    Who is or isn't retaining the NCD? (I've searched but can't see it).
