Hi Guys
Is there a website which will allow me to search universities for a certain subject taught? Where can I find out about a university and it's campus life/city life without relying on the uni website?
My mothers friend in Cyprus has a daughter who wishes to study law in the UK - however they are a bit worried about the sort of area the university might be in (she comes from a very secluded village in Cyprus) They have asked me to do some leg work for them as I am here but I'm not really sure where to start. Obviously I need to find which Universities offer law and then go from there. Her grades (they think) are not good enough for Oxford/Cambs. I would like to send them a list of suitable uni's for them to look through. Can anyone help with some good sites for me to start with??
Thanks very much

First off, try UCAS. You can search for universities by courses offered, and they also list grade requirements.
To find out about the area and 'honest' opinions of the uni, it might take a bit more leg-work, but you could have a look at the unofficial guides website. Some university unions produce their own unofficial prospectuses, which you can send off for.0 -
If she is from a rural area she will probably be best on a campus based rather than a city based university.. Or at least a uni in a smaller town.0

lellie has a good point.
But then again, if she wants to work in Law she is most likely going to have to work in a big city at some point?
Maybe also look for a university that has good support for international students? Many have accommodation especially for those from outside the UK, a good way to meet people without being thrown in at the deep end?
In terms of Law, I did my LLB at Nottingham Trent, and can highly recommend it. I am aware that there international student support is also highly regarded also. However, it is a very busy, city based campus.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks guys
I have compiled a list of uni's offering Law from the UCAS site and put them with the unofficial site in an email. I have said that once she has checked out each UNI against whether they will accept her grades she can then let me have the smaller list and then I can then advise on area etc. It's very difficult to advise on areas as I may only go on my knowledge which could be bourne from news and word of mouth. Once I know some I may post again on here and ask if anyone goes to those uni's and can advise on how good/bad the area is. Is there a specific thread other than this thread for students or is this it??

Thanks - I was wondering if some Uni's had good international support. I think the parents are worrying more than she is!! She could go to Nicosia Uni but wants to broaden her horizons and come here. Because most of the news out of here is bad (recent stabbings etc) mum and dad are wary about her going to Uni's in 'bad' areas.
I can onlly advise
Thanks for your help
I shall be asking for more info again no doubt.0
