xbox360 family settings

Options
Hi

We have recently set up xbox live.

We have set up a user profile and have a free trial of xbox gold, This may be a stupid question but what is the difference between xbox gold and xbox silver?

Also when I try to download something from the marketplace it says I cannot because of parental controls. However when I go to system the parental controls and password are greyed out and cannot be changed.

The profile set up was for my daughter and when she set it up will have put her date of birth in and she is 14. Could this be the reason parental controls are greyed?? Or is there something else I can do to change this setting

Thanks
Nice to save.

With SILVER you can download content from the Xbox Live market place. Content such as themes, game demos, video trailers, arcade games. With GOLD you can do all that, but you can also play games online against other people.

The family settings for the console suck to be frank. The settings are universal for all profiles on that console. It'd be sooo much better if they could update the dashboard so that you can have settings for each profile. If you set the restrictions for games to be 12 then even you on your own profile cant play the game. In Family Setting > Console Settings check the status for 'Access to Xbox Live' it might be disabled.

Possibley, there are some specific options in Family Settings > 'Xbox Live Controls' that you set to allow disable options. Might have not allowed downloads.

I got fed up with it to be honest and just tell my little brother what he can and can't do on there, much easier!
    I'm better off without you.
