Energy switched, what happens if I was still in credit with old supplier
Hi,
I have now switched supplier, but am unsure when to cancel my Direct Debit with my old supplier. Also if my account was in credit when the switch occoured, will this money be give back to me?
I have had no final bill as of yet from my old supplier, should I get this sent to me through the post, and will this inform me of what is outstanding or in credit on the old account.

You will get the money back, how they send the final bill, post or on line, depends on the account. What stage are you at ? I stopped my DD before the actual change from EOn date as I knew I was well into credit but risked losing the DD discount but had calculated that risk.0

I was on E.ON Fixed Price 5, and have moved over to EDF Blue +Price Promise April 2014. After looking at my new EDF account, my Electric switched over "Contract Live" on: 19/09/2012, and the Gas switched over "Contract Live" on: 27/09/2012.0

My final bill (on line as normal) was a week after the final live date so now waiting for the cheque.0

Some suppliers return credit balances by credit to the Direct Debit account, some by cheque. If your supplier returns by credit, unless you particularly want a cheque, don't cancel the direct debit mandate. My view is direct credit doesn't get "lost in the post".
Regulations allow the supplier 6 weeks to raise the final account.0 -
LOL, Just had an email from Eon, saying they have generated my final bill. Looks like i'm £74.00 in credit so hopefully I will get this back soon.
Thanks for all your replies

Sometimes if you don't cancel the DD they continue to take the money as SP did after I'd switched0

As said above, plus its your money and they pay for energy purchased up to your final readings, hence you get the overpayment back.
If its longer than 6 weeks after the switch date, somethings wrong so chase them up.
Generally it would be about 15 days for a cheque but could longer for large credit balances that need higher authorization.
Since your account is finalised and you can see the credit, they've achieved the 6 week target so its just about the refund so if nothing is received after 15 days from them producing that final bill, chase them up.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
