10 year old uncashed cheque question

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place for this query, but I'll ask it in the hopes someone can help.
10 years ago, just after he retired my father booked the "holiday of a lifetime" - a 2 week cruise in the Caribbean.
Unfortunately, a few weeks before my parents were due to depart my Dad had a heart attack and although he recovered somewhat, it started a series of health setbacks from he which he was never the same again and he died about 5 years ago.
I was left a huge number of his books in the will.
I opened one a few weeks ago and was most surprised to see a cheque from the Cruise liner company flutter out.
My Dad's mental health deteriorated towards the end and he obviously got some recompense for the cruise my parents didn't embark on and simply put the cheque inside the book and didn't tell anyone about it.
Now, this cheque is nearly ten years old.
I'm assuming it isn't valid, but do you think we still have a claim for the money the cheque represents?
Happy to answer any further questions.
Thanks for reading and in advance for any help you can give.

You are correct that it is no longer valid.
You would have to contacct the cruise co about the cheque to see if they would reissue it. That is if they are still trading.
It would only be a guess, but if a debt is statue barred after 6 year then the same would stand here.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
You can ask but you wont have many grounds to push.
Of cause it could be that he did forget where the cheque was and had them cancel it and reissue a new one which he did bank. Do you have bank statements from back then to see if that sum was deposited?0 -
You could just try paying it in and see what happens.0

Contact the Cruise Company and explain the situation. Considering the circumstances, they might agree to reissue a cheque as a goodwill gesture.0
