Free loan of squirrel traps

Hi guys and gals,
Not sure if I'm really in the right area, but anyway.
I'm just wondering about free loan of grey squirrel traps- are these sort of schemes only available in red squirrel strongholds?
My Dad, who is like me quite keen on our native squirrel, has a big problem with visiting greys and has confided in me that he wants a bow and arrow to deal with the problem.
I'm not too happy about the idea of the pater pottering about his small garden with a lethal weapon, so have said I'll look into loan of a trap for him.
I know in Northern England you can borrow the traps for free, but I wonder if there's a similar scheme in the Midlands (we're in Birmingham), or if E Health/Pest control would help out?
And just to let you know, I have no intention of releasing them.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks very much

Im sure its illegal to kill anything with a bow of any kind.
Air rifle on your own property would be OK, But it needs to land on your property when it drops.
Lad down the road had his air rifle taken away, Because neighboours had dead pigeons land on their property.
Dont know all the ins and outs but they said his pellets were going beyond the property boundary which is an offence.
Is they land on your propety when shot and the pellets dont go beyond the boundary then no issues.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yeah, I think I remember seeing somewhere that it's illegal to shoot at anything live with a bow and arrow. I don't really fancy the idea of him having an air rifle either (or any kind of weapon!!).
And I love the squirrel launcher idea.0 -
Just as an aside the foreign invader that does far far more damage, killing hundreds of millions of song birds, frogs, voles and so on is our freind the moggy.
It seems slightly crazy to me we bemoan greys, with good reason, but adore cats that do far more damage. We had a thriving colony of lizards round me until a woman moved in with her cats.
Personally I keep pets that do not harm the natural world.0 -
i had squirrels in my loft once, the pest guy set traps and being totally naive i thought he would let them out in a forest or something.
i got a big shock when he shot them with an air rifle,
its seems its a criminal offence to release them into the wild as they are vermin,
even though they had chewed all my wiring i still felt really guilty:o0 -
It's definitely illegal to hunt anything living with any type of bow in this country.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
