I thought it might be too late to put them in a pond too but it is where common goldfish belong and I think you can put fancies in a pond too provided it's deep enough.

I wish I had known all this when I first started fish keeping, I've lost a couple through inexperience and to be honest although I know better what I'm doing now I wish I could find someone to give my fancies to. Someone who has more time then me.

I did have some common fish in an 80 litre tank that I rehomed from a filled in pond but as soon as I found someone with a pond who could take them they went there.

Easier than i did when i had 130!!!

Started off in 1987 with 2 goldfish in a small tank.They soon grew so I got a bigger tank.Decided i could fit another 2 in(didn't know much then about how fish should be kept )but they all survived and grew.So when we moved house in 1990,and because my father in law declared he wanted rid of HIS fish as well,the first thing i got hubby to do was dig a pond.In they went but they looked lost so i got 4 baby orfe and a couple of rudd.Big mistake.The orfe grew like mad and the rudd bred within a couple of years,as did the goldfish.The pond was lovely but not really deep enough so in 1997 we decided to get it made bigger.In order to house the fish we had another one buitlt,a raised pond this time,800 gallons .In they all went and in due course the pond was enlarged,about 1200 galls.

They then got split between the two ponds.Nearly lost an orfe when it jumped out of the raised pond but after giving it the kiss of life(well,almost!!)it recovered.They went on to grow to full size,beautiful fish they were.All the fish carried on breeding.In the early days i used to get excited even raised some in a tank but needn't have bothered.Of course,people got to see and hear about this mad fish lady and i ended up being donated several more Thanks a lot folks.

The raised pond wasn't built to last however and last year leaks began appearing through the walls.We patched it up but it was decided that ,as i am getting arthritis now in my feed and hands that it would make sense to go bak to just the one.However in order to house at least some of them the big pond would need to be bigger still.Yes,told you i was mad

This April i got a good chap to build up from the ground of the biggest pond and lengthen the shelf.The fish were housed between the raised pond and a large paddling pool.In all that rain we had the pond was done,plus surrounding stone patio.It looks lovely,it holds about 1800 gallons,is 4ft deep and took 16 hours to fill!! The fish,well by this time i only had I orfe left they don't live as long a goldfish.The rudd we have removed to a very large lake where my son goes diving and there is no fishing.Have rehomed 20 goldfish as well.The last few ar e to go into the pond next week and then we are having the raised pond demolished and the area returfed.We want to get a dog after I've had a second op on my foot so it will have a bit of garden again!!

So I am left with 70 fish.if only they would stop breeding! i remove the eggs as soon as i can but a few always slip through the net and some will get eaten.But at least i shall only have goldfish,oh and a tench.The last orfe did a suicidal jump out of the pond sadly but he was very old.
