Permanent Ebay Suspension…But Don’t Know Why!

Can anybody help?
Two weeks ago Ebay removed all my listings & suspended me permanently, but will not tell me the reason why! The only reason they have alluded to if that I ‘may cause damage to the Ebay community’, and hinted at ‘this may be due to fraudulent activity’. I am a genuine seller with 3000 feedbacks and a 99%+ rating…and do not indulge in fraudulent activity. I had also hardly used my account for a month due to a holiday abroad.
I have emailed them a further two times requesting the exact reason for the suspension but they have not replied (the section dealing with Suspensions only deal via email apparently!). Also they have frozen my PayPal account and all the funds in it (24 hours after I had requested a transfer of the funds to my bank…but they never informed me that they had reversed this transaction). They state that my remaining funds will be released after 6 months once they have taken into account all the damage I have done to Ebay…and that this decision ‘cannot be appealed against’!
Surely this is not right…where do I stand legally…how can I make them see sense…please help?

  • For you to lose both your eBay and Paypal account at the same time it must be something serious. What were you selling and how many disputes have you had opened against you?

Paypl hold the funds for 180 days after closing an account in case of card chargebacks.

Are you sure you're being abroad for a month isn't connected ?

Has anyone hacked into your account and done something while you were away ?

It sounds odd if you haven't used it for a month and have been suddenly suspended.

Try phoning Customer Support and hang up until you get someone from Ireland.

eBay and Paypal can suspend any user's services without warning for any reason they like. It is perfectly legal for them to do so - use of their services is conditional on their approval of your behaviour while on-site, and as they are private organisations no absolute legal or human right exists for you to be able to use their services.

Just like a shop can kick you out if you are being rowdy, or a pub can refuse to serve you if you are drunk and making a fuss, if they think you risk either their good name or their security, they can terminate you. All totally legal. Additionally, companies don't normally turf people off who are bringing in a lot of custom and paying their bills regularly - so there is a good reason why this has happened, and you need to find out what it is.

However, you need to do a couple of things.

    - As Charlie's Mum says, ring CS.
    - What matters more than negs is DSR scores. eBay have just had a huge blitz and chucked off a lot of sellers they think are setting a bad example and annoying/upsetting buyers. You need to have a look at your dashboard and see whether you accumulated too many low stars, warnings and so on. This is important - though it may now be like conducting an autopsy rather than for future reference. 3 lows or 1% of transactions resulting in low FB scores means restrictions and potentially a ban if things get too bad.
    - If your feedback is OK, then make sure you have not been hijacked or had a problem with hackers, keyloggers etc.

  • Hi…thanks for the replies.

Since returning from holiday all I had done was re-list the items that had ended before / during I was away, plus a few computer books and a pc. Nothing that would of triggered this kind of action.

As for someone hacking into my account, the thought had crossed my mind too. But I’m in the dark as they won’t tell me the specific reason for the suspension.

I did know that one part of my Seller Dashboard had low markings…as you know you can never keep everyone happy all of the time, someone will always find something to complain about. But I thought Ebay’s actions a bit drastic if this is the reason for the suspension…and if it is, why they can’t confirm this.

Thanks…I’ll try the Irish Customer Support…Ian

Well - keeping customers happy is the cornerstone of selling - after all if you pay for something there's some expectation, for example swift dispatch and reasonably up-front postal prices being the two most common reasons for sellers to get into difficulty. How many low scores? More than 3 or 1% of total sales is the danger zone? But if you haven't had any specific warning about performance, then it doesn't altogether sound like termination on account of performance.

Could your account have been linked to anyone else's who might have had problems?

How low, can you still get to see your expanded dashboard and what does it show?

  • Paypal doesn't hold funds for 6 months because of DRS scores, if they did there would be some very angry sellers over on the eBay forums, there's something else here, OP have you had any disputes and if so what was the buyer's claim (if SNAD, why?)

Paypal's AUP would be a good place to look for clues:
