do you want the flirt style response or the slap in the face style response? ;)

  • I have a query! My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of January 2013. I'm a 24 year old female. Usually I shop around each year to find the best deal and then the quotes i get are valid for around a month or so.I was wondering whether if i got a quote before the 21st December for a policy starting when mine ends in Jan, would it cheaper or would the quote have already taken into consideration the gender laws? Would really appreciate some help!!
  • For car insurance I would suggest the following factors to consider before cancelling and taking out a new insurance policy.

    1) If you don't have maximum no claims bonus then the period you have had since the last renewal of your policy won't count. It may be worth getting the extra year no claims.

    2) If you have had a 'fault' claim you won't get any money back.

    3) Watch out for high cancellation charges - you may lose more on the cancellation than you gain.

    4) A minor one - is your birthday between now and December? Being a year older obviously helps.

    5) Your car will be a year older in January 2013 than December 2012 - most companies give a discount for age of car.

    6) I understand that Sheila's Wheels are not expecting any substantial increases on their rates post December 2012 due to the gender issue. This should be checked independently.

    7) There is also the hassle of obtaining proof of no claims bonus - which is usually more difficult following a mid term cancellation than at the renewal of a policy.
