Post dated cheque

Hi all
Could do with some advice from those in the know please?
I was paid a post dated cheque and accidentally cashed it with a few other cheques. The person has got in touch with me saying that it was cashed and has put them over the limit and therefore they've been given a charge of £36. Upon reading some things I see there's no such thing as a post dated cheque really. Not sure what to do now so any advice would be much appreciated please?
Cheers

Bottom line is that it is tough on them. They shouldnt have issued a post dated cheque.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
