Using Credit Card to pay deposits for Wedding

Hi All
I wonder if someone can help, we are about to start booking services/suppliers for our wedding. I know that there is some sort of protection if booked on a cc and I just wanted to get more info. I only have a very small limit on my card so would only want to pay the minimum amount required to get the cover and then pay the balance on the cc straight off.

It means that it the supplier fails to deliver and refuses to refund, then you can claim back the cost from the card company. Purchases over £100 will be covered (up to £30k, I think). But you only need to pay £1 or more on the card for each purchase to get the protection.
However, it obviously still stuffs the wedding plans. If you're particularly worried, then you may want to look at wedding insurance.0 -

Above is refering to CCA. Note it is individual item over £100 and not total invoice amount.
But you have to remember that you still have chargeback protection if goods/venue fail to deliver. Which is the way any card provider will take the case forward for you 1st.
If you have a visa debit card. You still have the same chargeback rights.
Just remember to keep ALL paperwork in one place in case of issues.....Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

Loads of sites do cover for around £5k upwards - ours is only 12k cover and that was the third tier up so there were much smaller ones.Officially Mrs B as of March 2013

And so are yout basic comsumer rights... So why go to the trouble of section 75. When you have consumer protection on your purchases?
A Chargeback is actually a right that Visa and Mastercard provide to anyone who uses their card, as per their agreement with the retailer/card provider who signup to allow use of their cards. And will be the way any card provider will take on any issue in the 1st place.
These are over and above your legal rights.
Too many people simply say Oh Yea, section 75 as its legal. But do not have any idea on how things are worked at card providers.
Section 75 can take months to resolve, requires a lot of work by the card holder to prove their case. A chargeback is usually a case of, at worst a form and proof of puchase/company closure. Many can be actioned over the phone and require no paperwork to action.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

It's still not a right given to cardholders. Their contract is with the CC., not Visa/Mastercard. The FOS has said that given the access CCs have to chargeback, they would expect a CC to use chargeback to help a consumer. That's still not the same as a statutory right, but it's getting there.
Of course, in the case of a chargeback the CC is happy cos it doesn't cost them anything. They will certainly fight a s75 claim if they can't use chargeback to protect their position. But remember that in the context of a company going bust, chargeback can also fail.
Also, bear in mind that s75 makes the CC jointly and severally liable in contract law. This means you are not limited to the purchase price. With chargeback you can only get back what you paid.
So if the OP puts £1 on a CC for a £1000 dress, chargeback will get £1. S75 will get £1000 (or more if getting an equivalent dress at short notice costs more).0
