A&L Referral?

I've just opened an A&L Premier Direct account. Unfortunately, I've only just found out about Quidco. As a result, I feel like I'm now £50 down on life, which really upsets the tartan bits of my DNA. Therefore, is there a safe & secure way of referring someone for an A&L Premier Direct account via this website, so that we can both earn £50?

Visit the referrers board. There is probably still time for someone to refer you. You'll do better than if you used Quidco as most people will give you £40-£45 of the money they get on top of the £50 you would get. You'd have to let them know your account number, but as it's written on every cheque you write, it's not really something you need to keep secret.

I did exactly the same thing with mom's application, clicked on submit and realised I hadn't gone through quidco! We phoned A&L and asked them to cancel the application, they agreed and said it wasn't a problem but we had to wait for the account to be opened and then phone with the account number so that they could close the account.

Once mom received the letter saying the account was being closed we made a fresh application through quidco, application approved as before with same overdraft. She is now just waiting for her direct debits to transfer over and she will be up and running!

The website does say that you can't apply for the Premier Direct account if you have held the same account witihin the previous three months, we checked this out with A&L and they said it wasn't a problem to re-apply so soon after closing the firat account as you can have as many Premier Direct accounts as you like.

Have to say the service from A&L has been excellent, if I wasn't so happy with my Nationwide Flex account then I would transfer over myself, £50 through quidco + £50 for refer a friend from mom, can't be bad!

I understand from reading the thread on the referrers board that you can no longer get Quidco and the refer a friend as they have apparently tightened up. Over on referrers some are offering £40 back from refer a friend, therefore (without Quidco) you would get £90.

I wasn't aware you could have more than one Premier Direct account though - no doubt there is something in the T&Cs to stop you getting more than one referral/Quidco cashback ...

PS - You have seen the other thread about existing Nationwide FlexAccount holders being able to get £100 simply for switching a few direct debits across as part of a current promotion?

You might be able to open more than one account, but you won't qualify for the 6.1% rate* or the referral cashback**, so it hardly seems worth it, really.

    * "To be eligible for a Premier Direct at a rate of 6.10% AER fixed until 30.04.2008 applicants must not currently hold a Premier Direct Current Account and must not have held a Premier Direct Current Account in the three months preceding a new Premier Direct Current Account Application."

** "The person being recommended must not have held a Premier or Premier Direct account in the 3 months preceding the application to open a new account."

Also noticed on the application page, "There is a maximum of either one Premier or one Premier Direct Current Account per customer. "

A relief in some respects as didn't look into this previously as I thought you couldn't (and therefore couldn't get the 8.1% ISA linked to opening a new Premier account) - would be kicking myself if I could as I opened an Egg ISA on Saturday!

I think we are getting a bit off-topic, although that is half the fun of these forums. All I need is to recommend one person who has opened, or is going to open, a new account between 2 April and 30 April, and this will negate my oversight in not opening mine via Quidco.

    Hi dave_dph,

I didn't realise when you Pm'd me earlier that you'd gone to so much trouble to go through quidco - that's a real shame now the RAF deal is better (sod's law eh?!) I just wanted to say, as Anon has already kindly pointed out, you can't have more than either one Premier or one Premier Direct account with A&L so someone's given you the wrong information there.

Also I'd be careful to check that your mum does get the 6.1% credit rate, overdraft at 0% and quidco money with this second account as the system could detect she's held a Premier Direct account in the last 3 months and cause her some problems (since the application went through successfully though my gut feeling is you'll be ok with this but I'd still keep an eye on it as they can make mistakes.) If anything did go wrong I'm sure you'd easily be able to get it corrected as someone at A&L told you it was fine for you to cancel the first account and open it again.
£50 through quidco + £50 for refer a friend from mom, can't be bad!

I think I already told you this by PM Dave but just in case anyone else reading the thread gets the wrong idea you CANNOT get both the £50 from quidco and the RAF money - it's been one or the other since August last year when A&L finally spotted a lot of people were taking advantage of both so they plugged the loophole.

    Regards

    Michelle

Okay, so go to the referrer's board and do so. It's against the forum rules to trade referrals here.

Michelle has already pointed out the error of my ways. I apologise, and will probably now come back in my next life as a bank clerk.
