Dimmer switch question

Had to replace dimmer switch in one of our bedrooms. New one is from Wickes and is their slimline dimmer switch with push off and on or rotation.
However if you push it it doesn't click and stay on or off just while you hold it. Is this right?

so it's not wrongly wired?? I haven't let DD use it since yesterday when it was fitted as OH has been working and I want him to check it but he needs daylight to do so.PROFESSIONAL_LANDLORD wrote: »Nope ! it's defo; NACKED

If you push in the knob and rotate the control and the lights vary, the dimmer will be wired properly , there is a small spring in the switch, which has probably failed.0 -

Yes it works ok on rotation. Thanks for advice I will get OH to take it off tomorrow and return it. OH is working so I didn't want to look like a silly female in Wickes as the staff member I asked for help on buying the switch was a bit condescending.
