Removal Company Disaster HELP

I have just had a removal company move my contents into my apartment, They have damaged the stairway walls which I have had to repair at my cost. the red paint from the stairway walls is on my white suite, plaster was knocked off my wall, when I pointed it out they said it was difficult to get it up the stairs and not their fault. I have also discovered the suite is frayed, stained and the base bashed and damaged. The removal company charged me £880.00 for the move...they arrived, a chap in his 30s and his father 74, no one else to move the contents of a five bedroom house. I havent paid the bill yet because of the damage, the job was two weeks ago and they have been harrassing me, my mobile rang 14 times between 5pm and 6.30pm tonight. When i text to say I could not speak as I was taking care of my handicapped son they replied that they were seeking legal advice because in my letter of complaint I said ''I expected 4 people to come to do the job not one chap and his 74yr father!!). They said it was a deflamatory comment about his fathers age and were seeking legal advice. Help where do I stand. They are registered as a storage and removal company.:(

Do you have any form of written/signed contract?0 -
No just got their bill, even that I had to ask for an explanation as to hours worked etc as they had only put a total amount. I know I am being ripped off and my items ruined...just dont know what to do about it..felt harrassed and upset after their constant calls during dinner time for my son then an awful text and I am the one whose furniture and home has been damaged. dont know who to contact..its just not fair..tks for replying :-)0

I dont have any advice to offer about the removal company but is your suite leather? If yes spray a little hairspray on one bit of the red paint and it should come off (test in a place where you cant see it first).0

Are they insured?
Are they members of the professional body
Were they just the cheapest quote?
Have you had the damage to the property and your furniture assessed?0 -
did you insure your stuff, did you inform your contents insurance about your move?Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

You employed them without getting a quote or agreeing a price?
Why did you 'expect' 4 people unless they confirmed this first? The age of the father is not relevant, what is relevant is the competence of the employees to do the job.
It's very unusual to complete a major move without minor damage such as scraping a wall etc, and this appears to be the sole issue you have with them.
Why are you witholding the total payment when the damage can't come to more than £100?
They have every right to chase you for payment if the invoice is overdue. No free lunch, and no free laptop
