Just seen a couple of Ford Fusion diesels advertised and wondered if anyone has owned one and could give me their opinion of them as a family car. I'm looking at the 1.4 diesel version to save money.

I own a ford fusion 1.4 TDCI 53 plate and I love it. My mother had the car for 7 years before me and had most of the more expensive repairs done to it due to the high mileage she did, I seem to remember the dual mass flywheel and new clutch being around the £500 mark! Running costs are at the lower end of the scale though due to being in the £30 tax bracket and its very economical on the fuel front if you're doing long distances.
It's a great car for a family as it has tonnes of space, theres no lip into the boot so no hurting your back lifting prams, bikes, shopping etc in and out. Spacious cabin both front and rear, great seating position too (more ergonomically sound). Front passenger seat also folds flat so you can get long loads in like bookcases from ikea if you're that way inclined like us!0 -
Not a bad car at all to be honest. They're very much a blown up version of the last-shape fiesta which is no bad thing.
From memory, the autobox on these wasn't good, very not good, and they can get some electrical problems from water settling round the wiring for the ignition system.
They weren't a bit success from the sales point of view compared to the Meriva. Think this was mainly down to their utilitarian look and interor, especcially on the more basic models.
The 1.4 TDCI isn't a bad engine at all. We had a few Fiestas with them in in my old job, some of them did the better part of 200k in 3 years, and they were no trouble as such. Low milers may have the normal modern diesel problems EGR, DPF.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

My parents had one and they got fed up of taking it back for repairs..
Gearchange issues plagued it.
They swapped it for a Golf at a huge loss. They still have the Golf 8 years on.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
