i lied on my cv

I've been wondering about this too. Back in the 90s I had a brain tumour so was too sick to work and found it hard to gain employment afterwards. There's a big chunk of time missing from my cv and I'm certain this has held me back from other jobs.
Could I lie and fill that time in?0 -
just say you couldn't remember the grades, if they even ask you, or change the grades to the correct ones and if asked say you just found out the correct grades, it's no big deal.0

Just be creative with your language. An F's a pass, so you've got a Maths GCSE.
So you have however many GCSE's, including Maths.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
I agree, just update your CV and send that with your applications.0

When you leave out qualifications employer will think one of two -
1) You're someone who has no qualifications at all. A complete idiot who failed school, didn't get to uni or college.
2) You're a very old person who's desperately trying to hide your age.
Both are undesirable.
I suspect that if I put 1 GCSE at grade F they will still think I'm a complete idiot anyway
Do you ever get the feeling that you can't win

If you left school quite a few years ago GCSE results arent really relevant are they? I don't even put my age on a CV and it hasnt held me back.
You could just put GCSE - Pass without a grade anyway.0 -

Obviously. Old people are nearing retirement, and more prone to illnesses that comes with old age. It's naive to think age has no relevance to employment. The older you get the more you're unemployable.
And don't give me that age discrimination nonsense. No employer will openly admit it to you they're discriminating you on age.0 -

Lying on your CV can result in dismissal if offered a job.
Write a skills based CV where what you're offering the employer takes precedence over the jobs you've had and turn your period of illness into a positive. Skills on a CV don't need to come from paid employment.0 -
Hi Erin
For the past 7 years I have run a professional CV writing business and if it helps, there is no legislation to say you HAVE to put anything specific on your CV only of course that what you do include must be true. I'm so sorry to hear you had a tough time at school but my advice to anyone is to focus on the positive in your CV. If you didn't pass an exam it's usually best not to mention it at all. I ahve pleny of examples of people who fro many valid reasons didn't ahcive much at school and yet have been high achievers since. Don't let it hold you back and emphasise what you have got to offer instead.
