What sort of ideas would you like?
I'm building a huge extension onto a house right now and I'd say there has been minimal impact to next door. The plot can take it and building work finished each day before most people get in from work. It's detached, so the noise from inside isn't carried through at all. I can also only see what we're doing as improving the street.
That said, precedent is set as both neighbouring houses, whilst smaller already come back quite far into their plots and that means that there is no overlooking.
Have they used an architect for these plans? If they have then the architect should have addressed any issues (overlooking/boundary etc) that might affect you, but once they've submitted plans, go and have a look at them and ask a planning officer to run through anything that might affect you and see whether there would be any grounds for you to object. If there aren't, don't get off on the wrong foot by just putting in objection for the sake of it!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The back of our house is about 12 m from the side of this other one. They want to come out the front as the garden is too small out the back for it. This would mean us looking at a huge brick wall - we already look at one but this would be our whole view!!! They want to go 2 storey and also a bedroom/study area in the new attic. So effectively 3 storey. They will not be overlooking as all the see through windows will be facing into a field we willl havve the bathroom windows etc - so huge brick wall!!!!
We already have houses right out the front which is to be expected but to be effectively blocked in out the back too is another matter.
Am gutted as we have only just moved....0 -
I am sure that even in new estates they don't build that close any more??0
-
They are extending at the FRONT of their property?? I thought most planning frowned on going beyond the original 'front' point (ie closer to the road)??0

Well I do hope so !!! Yes it is all going to be out the front which is our view out our back as the houses are situated funny.0

Which rooms in the OP's house are likely to be affected, as non-habitable rooms don't "count" for certain reasons like being overlooked? We need more details or a plan, please.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

It is hard to describe. But, our living room window view at the moment is of the side of their house.move left a bit and we can see their front porch and then a nice space and our garage wall is joined to the left of our window The house is about 12 m from our living room window. So when they build that 'space' will be a brick wall - so all we will see out our window (looking from left to right) will be our garage wall, their extension wall, the side of their house .
Sound good???
And as they want to go up high, from where I am at the moment that is all we will see out the window - wall. Hard to imagine a huge wall 12 metres away from your face!!0 -
Now I know their plans have been done so as not to overlook us - windows other side it is the wall and closeness and feeling of being boxed in I am not liking the thought of. They have a 3 bed nornal detached and will be more than doubling the size. Small plot and right on our doorstap so to speak.0

There are rules about how much you can extend by and any extention you already have counts (AFAIK) towards the total. Exactly what the rules are I don't know, but someone else on here or a google search should tell you. It might be that they can not extend as much as they wish, worth a look anyway.
The complete cynic in me wonders if this is why the previous owners of your house were selling.0 -

Your local council should have the planned extension on their website.
Take a note of the reference no. from the planning notice, phone the council asking who to send a letter to, and write a formal letter of objection, quoting the planning reference number.
If you do nothing you only have yourself to blame.0
