Insurance claim in progress and changing insurers.

My parents are making an accidental damage claim on their insurance, but also want to change their insurers as the policy is up next week. The current insurer is RIAS, but the policy is pants as recently discovered.

Can they change insurers and still have the old one deal with this claim (it has already been submitted), or as there is currently a claim being dealt with, will they have to put off renewing until after the claim has been settled/next year.

Thanks

  • Nothing stopping them from shopping elsewhere for a different insurer despite the claim going on.

All they have to do is explain the circumstances to any other insurers when quoting so that the claim is delcared.

You can shop around but for Home there are some insurers that wont accept new customers with an ongoing claim, Car are less picky

Many insurers will not accept new business with an ongoing claim but some do - they wiil require further details so you will not be able to do this online.

What is the issue with the current insurer? Have they accepted the claim? Are they being slow in sorting it? Have they offered someting that you are not happy with?

Only for Home. For Motor most insurers dont care if there is an ongoing claim or not
