Unwanted advertising on Virgin Media

We use Virgin Media and Virgin email on our PC and laptop (Windows 7). Both have a large space of Virgin adverising at the top and a panel providing "Google by Virgin Media" below. This takes up quite a lot of space and makes it difficult to read long emails especially on the laptop.
Is there some way I can delete them, please?

Download them and read them offline, using an email reader, eg thunderbird!!

Yeah, install and use a client program such as Thunderbird or Outlook.
If you want to stick with the web interface, use an adblocker (AdBlockPlus if you use Firefox) which will take away the advert above the red header on the Virgin Mail page.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
When you log in and it starts loading if you look at bottom right it will say something like view or load using HTML click on HTML. Should solve your problem and should load like that everytime you log in unless you revert to standard settings.0

What "devon scouse" said. Once loaded, above the list of emails is a brown / orange box. Select "Set basic HTML as default view".0

I'm sorry to sound dense, johnmc, but I don't think I've got that box on mine! I did try what devonscouse said and thought I had done it but the banner and search bar are still there. Could you explain again where the box is that I'm looking for? Thanks0

Read through FastDruid's post on the VM Community Email forum, and see if it works for you - it does for me!
Using AdBlock Plus (as suggested above by WhiteChristmas) might also assist here - as everywhere elsewhere!0 -
As already suggested, Don't use VM webmail. Use Thunderbird, Live Mail, or another desktop email client instead. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you, John, that's certainly a very useful page - I will give it a try as soon as I am less busy.0

if you decide not to use thunderbird, but do have firefox install get the addon customise your web.
it will allow you to remove items from the html code banners, ads, anything you want basically. I use it on some websites where i dont like the ads and adblocker doesnt work or the website get disabled due to adblock being turned on.0 -
