Cooker Hood Wiring

Hi Guys,

Just looking for a little help.

My cooker extract stopped working at the begining of the year, no idea why there is no light and no fan. I changed the fuse in the white box that is ontop of my cupboards that the wiring runs into but that didn't fix it. The wire from the box goes upwards into my wall. I had a look under my floor boards on my landing and it looks like the wiring comes upstairs. Now around about the time the hood stopped working I had the fronts of my plug sockets changed. Is it possible that the extractor is wired into a socket upstairs and hasn't been put back right?

Kind Regards

Gem

  • Anything is possible!!

But someone replacing socket front would surely connect all wires back up.

Could be a loose connection in the box on the cupboard? Blown fuse replaced with blown fuse?

Yes it is very possible that it was run as a fused spur from an upstairs socket. But you would expect anyone replacing the socket fronts to put all the wires back in.

Find the fused spur, check for power at that first. Get an electrician in if you don't know how to test this safely (which from your post, I suspect that you don't).
Almost certainly not a problem with the extractor itself, as you wouldn't lose power to both the motor and the light simultaneously.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
