The first thing to do is to speak to your employer. In my experience most employers are reasonable when an employee has already been given notice of redundancy and finds another job during the notice period.
Often what happens is that you get your full redundancy payment but you lose the wages you would have earned if you had worked your notice to the end.
If your employer does not agree, then you can serve a written counter notice stating that you wish to leave before your formal notice expires (we can help you with this). The employer may then serve its own counter notice and refuse to allow you to leave early in which case you could jeopardise your redundancy pay if you leave without permission.
So speak to your employer first, before you put anything in writing.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
My current employers have said that I only need to give a weeks notice and I will only lose the pay for the extra weeks I am not working, Just unsure how to word the letter0

When you spoke to them, did you also confirm that you would still get your redundancy pay?
The proper way to do it is to write a letter along these lines
The letter should say "Redundancy Counter Notice. You have given me a redundancy dismissal date of _______ (insert date). I have found another job and I would like my contract to end on ________ (insert proposed leaving date). Please confirm that you accept this as my date of dismissal".
Doing it this way ensures that you remain entitled to your redundancy pay unless the employer formally objects in writing.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
CARFULL : Counter notice is only usable within the statutory notice period.
If you have agreement that redundancy is payable with one weeks notice then recheck this is the case get it in writing(ask in an email) if not allready in writing as part of the consultation and/or the termination notice.0
