how many kids ? home insurance
missindecisive

unbelieveable !! Having just got a quote from compare the market for Barclays home insurance...they provide their quote based on the assumption that there are no children living at the address. Fill in their form online and alter the number of children to 'four' and guess what ? your premium goes up !!
Now I wouldn't mind if...1) I was insuring my contents against accidental damage because im not. Or 2) I had specific, extremely valuable items in the home to insure, because I haven't. My quote is for the bog standard minimums as all Im really concerned about is fire, flood or theft....none of which my own children would do ! Has anyone else found this ?

Some home insurance policies include AD cover for entertainment equipment and sanitaryware as standard even if AD isnt included
Insurance however isnt that logic driven but statistics driven. If they've analysed their portfolio and found that all things be equal that families with kids cost them more then they will charge more even if they cannot rationalise why (and often they dont bother trying to rationalise)
If you wanted to try and guess the rationalisation then it could be that with 4 kids you get more distracted than if your a childless couple and so more likely to leave that pan on the stove that then catches fire0 -
Unfortunately, from an insurer's point of view, it's a matter of risk. The risk of damage from 1 child compared to 4 child is a big difference. And unfortunately again, it's not like you can go to an insurance company and ask them to stay with you for a month and actually prove your kids do not damage your property...it's all computerised.0

To be fair, my kids tv are better than mine, their phones are, they own ipods, they wear designer cloths, they ride bikes, they play musical instruments, so if we are burgled their stuff will be going first.
And now they cook, they're going to burn the house down first as well.0
