Have I A Claim

When I bought my first house after my divorce went to see a financial advisor, was talked into getting payment protection insurance with Zurich for accident & sickness and unemployment benefit, basically was sold it on the basis that it was a cash payment of £525 per month if either happened for 12 months, not told it was linked to a mortgage thought it was stand alone cover.

3 and half years ago moved in with my partner rang the new company cardif pinnacle who had taken over the policy to tell them I was moving into partners address but would be keeping the old house on, as it happens on an interest only mortgage of £97.

Got my annual statement today and decided to ring up and clarify a few things with PPI in the news!! turns out a condition is I have to be living in the property i have the mortgage on and that the amount of money I could have claimed would be only £97.

I was totally shocked as I was going on what i was told originally, obviously i have cancelled and complained, they have registered this and are looking into the complaint.

Anything else I should do and whats my chances of getting any money back?

So far so good. No wrong doing there.

This is a grey area. There doesnt appear to be any wrong doing from the sale point of view. A change of circumstances arrived where you didnt tell the insurer or the insurer didnt understand the chance and didnt amend. I suspect they will listen to the phone call and if they made a mistake they will refund the excess premium for the 3.5 years

  • Filled in the claim form and as a gesture of goodwill they offered £1300, gave some more information via email they came back with offer over £2500 basically what I had paid over the past 6 years or so plus interest happy days!! :j
