Halifax and Barclays account

Hi all

Around 4 -5 years ago, i opened up and account with Barclays and then later with Halifax. Each of these accounts had a fee charged each month, and i think you needed to pay a set amount in per calendar month. Anyway, having looked at these accounts, i realise that i was paying a charge for having the account "benefits". In branch, i did state that these features were no use to me but they said that they were part of the accounts feature and had to be before the account could be opened. Is there any way i can complain about these ?

Yes of course. You can find both banks complaints procedure on their websites.

What would the basis of your complaint be though?

In the meantime, if you no longer wish to pay for your personal banking, both banks offer a range of accounts which include ones that charge no monthly fees. Perhaps have a word with the bank and swap over to one of those accounts? :)

my complaint would be that there was absolutely no option to opt out of these benefits, i had absolutely no need for them !

As I said, both banks offer personal current account options that do not incur a monthly charge; all you need do is ask them. :)
