hsbc credit rating

Hello All
Ive resently found when checking my file hsbc have (in 2009)placed 6months worth of late payment charges against my credit file (all showing Red .I only have a basic account which has no borrowing facility and has always been in credit .
I have asked them why and they say its because id not used the account for some time .
Is this right ?and would this affect both my rating and or my borrowing ability..

Did you bounce any Direct Debits or standing orders in that time? Bounced DDs or SOs are reported by banks in the same fashion as missed payments.

It would affect your credit rating, although the fact it was 3 years ago reduces the impact, but it will cause issues.

Nope....there are no dds or standing orders on the account or any payments going out off account .its such a basic account is that simple.they have just cocked up
