Travel Insurance

In June I purchased online Travel Insurance through Aviva Insurance, as my Daughter and I are both asthmatic therefore medical conditions needed to be disclosed. Eveything looked ok on web site, I was offered to take out extra cover for Golf Clubs, which as we do travel away and my husband often takes his clubs I added this also. Happy with my quote I decided to accept and purchase insurance, I should have received my documents within a couple of hours via email. I only received my Confirmation stating Policy No. At no point was a policy schedule sent. I had contacted via telephone and email requesting documentation. Still nothing received. A couple of months later we were travelling to Egypt so I decided to call to increase cover to allow trip to Egypt, paid extra on policy and advised that to date no documentation had been received, I was assured that documentation would follow in post which good enough a week later it arrived. Unfortunately we had already embarked on our holiday. Upon our return one of our suitcases had gone missing I have called AVIVA who have now advised that Baggage insurance is an extra. Therefore we are not covered. I have basically paid for health insurance abroad, with golf club cover thrown in. Please, please please do ensure when you taking out insurance that you read and ensure you get policy schedule before travelling to enable you to confirm what level of cover you have. We are now about £1500 out of pocket, feeling very traumatised, have called AVIVA for refund which they do not offer, and want to add more money to policy for baggage. I am not prepared to pay any further monies to such a deceiptful company.

I had dreadful experience with Aviva. No doubt the Aviva rep who lurks on this forum will be around soon to peddle her platitudes.

Your home insurance will possibly cover your baggage.

Whilst I understand the frustration about thinking you were buying one thing and actually getting something but cover for physical items by travel insurance is generally very poor with most providers and the insurance is really 15% about the holiday going wrong and 80% about medical emergencies

    Hi Shazzaq,

I'm sorry to hear about your lost baggage.

I'm happy to look into this for you. Feel free to email me with the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Date of birth
    • Postcode
    • Policy number

We're at social@aviva.co.uk. I can trace the initial phone call to see what we advised. I'll also look into why the documents were not emailed to you.

    Many thanks,
