Quick royal mail postage question

Hi,
I thought I'd ask on here as you all seem to know plenty about the postal system!

I have a large letter that weighs about 250g (don't have scales) so I'd like to put £1.60 worth of postage on it for it to go first class (up to 500g). If I put 2 second class stamps and one first class stamp on it, will it still go first class? It needs to move fairly swiftly but not that vital or valuable so no need for special delivery.

Thanks!
Rosemary

    Yes.

I'd write "1st Class" in top left corner. Are you absolutely certain it will go large letter?

Yes, I've measured it :) Several times in fact! It's only a little bigger than A4, and about 2cm thick so ought not to be a problem at all. We have rulers everywhere in this house, but our scales have run out of batteries. Plus, the postbox is much closer than the post office or anywhere that does sell batteries. Thanks for your help!
