Hi, last year I was on income support and then jobseakers.
From jan this year I've been self employed 16 hrs a week
I'm a single parent of 1 in private rented
I'm really worried that next year tax credits will stop my money,
If they go on what I had last yr to this?
I there a limit you can earn before its altered?
Obviously I've earnt more this yr to last and they go on last yrs earnings to work out what they give me this yr don't they?
Thanks

so I will still get the same money next year?
I wouldn't bet on it...A new regime will require the lowest paid to show that they are unable to push up their wages any further.
Under Universal Credit conditions will be set on payments to many working claimants who earn less than the weekly equivalent of the minimum wage. They will be expected to demonstrate that they are making every effort to rise above this earnings threshold, by finding better-paid work, increasing their hours or taking on an extra job. It is the first time that this ‘conditionality’, already applied to claimants of unemployment benefit, has been extended to include people who are in work. The type of checks and the sanctions taken against people who fail to meet the conditions are still unknown.
Jobcentre Plus was recently the focus of a Policy Exchange report, which recommended that the government should withdraw benefits from part time and temporary workers who are not doing all they can to find a higher paid or full time job, suggesting that we should expect more from those claiming benefits.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Interesting reading,thanks
I can't do any more as even with the help with child care I can't afford to not be there at 3 to pick up son0 -
I have posted about this. You really need to wait for the full details of Universal Credits, it may be that you are in a bad situation with this, yes it's not fair, but lots of self employed people are in the same situation.
I'm really upset about the changes due, but what can I do, nothing but write to people and complain :-(0
