And also they done it unknowingly and also paid cash for the item themselves had it of been someone I don't know then I would have assumed it was a case of fraud and not a mistake on M&S's side0

What the store meant by 3 point check was that you would need to provide, address, e-mail address and phone number to be able to access the persons account as a verification check. Therefore the person that has ordered the item has provided these details.
As far as double charging is concerned I cannot see how this would be possible with the system - if your card was debited the details would have been sent through to the next screen and therefore till payment shouldn't be possible.
Have you looked on your account details on the M&S website - you should be able to get the order details from here. Also have you tried to phone the M&S customers ordering number/ customer services as they will have full visability of orders and would be able to tell if a double charge has somehow happened.2014

When you place an order using a card, the card is not debited until the item is dispatched from the warehouse, whereas if you pay at the till, the payment is taken instantly, so it would be possible to be charged twice!
What "should" happen when the card details are already on the payment screen, is that the assistant should physically check the card details with the customer to make sure that they definitely want to use that card!
Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have happened in this case and the assistant seems to have scanned the paperwork through the till without selecting the "pay at till" option on the payment screen, so the card would be debited as normal!
Hope this makes sense!

I still don't understand how the system would allow this as there are checks and balances that would flag up a double payment in the system under the same order number - if anything surely it would stop the order completely??!!2014

So, your friend did not give a house number, name or telephone number, but only a postcode.................Whats the chances of that, that you are the only person with a M&S account in that postcode.0
