Paying AmEx early

in Credit cards
I've recently got the AmEx platinum card that gives the introductory 3 months 3% cashback. They've only given me a credit limit of £1400 which I thought would be ok as I could buy what I need then pay it off before my statement is due and then I would have my full £1400 available credit again to use the 3% cashback. However, I've just been told by AmEx that paying it off early won't do anything as the maximum I can spend on the card is £1400 in any month. Is this true? It's not the case with Barclaycard and I all credit cards worked like Barclaycard? Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi. I recently discovered the same thing. I couldn't belive it either. You can call them up and insist they take a payment from you. It worked for me. You can also use an online bank transfer to your Amex account. They can't do anything about that.0

But would the full £1400 be available if I paid it off early?0 -
Everytime I try to pay current balance online I get a page saying "We're sorry, Online Services have been unable to complete your request.". It's just not working, I hope I can force them to take the payment over the phone.0

I have an BA Amex card which I usually pay off in full every month. However my payment for last month was short by £35 and when I got my statement it showed an Interest charge of £29. This equates to a significantly high percentage of Interest for only £35. I called customer service and they informed me that the charges were incorrect and should have been approx £6 and apologised for the incident and cancelled the charge.
So a lesson to be learnt here...alway check your statement for the correct charges!:money:0 -

Hmm. Interesting. I just checked on the Amex website and for the BA card it says in the T&C's that interest will be charged on the full balance if you do not pay the full balance on that statement. Thus according to what i have read, your interest charge of £29 would not be incorrect and AMEX have refunded the rest of the interest for some reason.
Were you on any promotions for that balance?Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I agree with you. That is the way pretty much all credit cards work. If you don't pay the balance in full you are charged interest on the full balance.0 -
I am not on any promotion so I can only assume they have made a mistake on giving me the refund then!0
