Hi. I might have the opportunity to buy a centre speaker I've been after for a while, which matches the rest of my setup. Its for a very good price. There is one problem with it though.
The dust cap covering the voice coil (the centre part of the larger speaker driver) has been pushed in and looks all dented. Sellers kid did it.. The seller assures that this does not affect the sound quality. I have no opportunity to listen to it before buying. Does anyone think it would not affect the sound or would it be best avoided?
Thanks

Is it a dust cap or is it a tweeter or midrange concentric driver.
If the kid has pushed it hard enough to dent it, that might have damaged the entire driver.
I would not buy it without carefully examining it and listening to it. Why can’t you do this?
The sellers assurance is worthless unless you know and trust him. Why is he selling it?0 -
It shouldn't affect the sound but it could as the shape is different. Depending on the material it is made from it may be possible to restore the shape using a vacuum cleaner if it really bothers you.
the surface damage could be just cosmetic, you really should audition it to ensure there is no dammage to the driver0 -
Its in another part of the country and on ebay so an audition is not practical.
Its definitely a dust cap on this particular speaker. I think I might go for it if its cheap enough. If it turns out its clearly affecting the sound I guess I can say it doesn't meet the description and get some money back.0 -
