Help! cant get buildings insurance due to slight movement

Can any one help me find buildings cover as I have been rejected by direct line, norwich union, and the aa due to slight movement in my house. I was previously insured by Zurich but we had told them there had been no subsidence, heave or land slip as thats what we thought. On reading my homebuyers report i realised there had been slight movement but that it was not serious or recent. At this point I had already cancelled my zurich policy from 1st may thinking i had a direct line one and now they will not insure us. Are there any companies that will cover us or anything we can do?

  • is this a recent purchase ??

sometimes you can go back through the previous owners policy and claim through them ??

maybe this link will be able to give you some answers Insurance

  • Hi,

If it was over 20 years ago some insurers will not bother that there was movement. I would recommend checking out an insurance broker in the yellow pages for a customised policy.

Alternatively an insurer can consider such a risk if you can provide them with a structural engineers report.

  • Oh sorry forgot to also advise pretty much all insurers will cover your buildings if movement or subsidence is specifically excluded. Don't know if you would want that though.

Hi I work for insurance co (zurich). You need to find oout who was insuring the prop at the time, and they have a legal obligation to insure you. If you can not do this, as Zurich was your last insurer, they also have a legal obligation to continue insuring you. Just need to give them as much info about the movement as you can.
    Hope this helps.
