Hi!
I am in the market for a DSLR camera and have my eyes on the Canon 600D camera. I am due to pop over to the states for a family visit and am aware this camera is available in thr US but under a different name. I believe it is called a canon rebel t3i.!
The cost is really pushing me to buy this from there, i am aware that the guarantee will only cover US and canada but depending on the deal i may be tempted to get it from there, as i have calculated even with the duty free it won't be as cheap and i am prepared to take a risk here hoping it won't breakdown anytime soon.!
With all the extra accessories if i brought these from UK would they still be compatible with the US version?!
It be good to get peoples views on this. Has anyone else done this and brought camera or other similar electronic goods from there?!
Anything I should be aware of?!
You advice is greatly appreciated.!

All Canon (or non OEM "Canon") accessories should work absolutely fine with this camera.
However, you will struggle with getting the camera fixed if it goes wrong within the warranty period - or even outside of it. You may find that Canon will refuse to touch the camera at all, even if you are willing to pay for them to do the work. Then you are forced to go to an "independent" camera repairer - who may or may not be any good.........0 -
You could register the warranty at a US address, but in the event of a claim you'd have to courier it back over there to get it fixed under warranty.
Is the saving really enough to make it worth it?No free lunch, and no free laptop

You could consider a refurb from the Canon outlet. At £439 it is virtually the same price as buying in the US, plus you still get a genuine 12 month Canon warranty.
They come up pretty regularly. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-600D-18-0-MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-18-55mm-IS-Lens-Refurbished-/390476434782?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item5aea358d5e
Of course, if you don't mind not having the swivel screen, you could by the Canon 550D and save a bit of cash.0 -

You would need to check the charger works over here - I suspect it does come with a 110-230v 50-60hz one but it wouldnt be the first time a USA market product doesnt when the rest of the world does.
Other than that your only concerns are warranty and import duty/vat
Unless they've changed the rules recently then lenses do have a world wide warranty but canon certainly used to ask for proof of legitimate import (ie receipts from customs) if you bought it from a country other than your area of residency0 -
Check the video framerates are the same - for the UK, 25p is ideal.0

I bought a Sony Camera in the USA, it works fine, however I had to buy a new charger since the one with it had a US Plug (eBay from Hong Kong) and then there is the Import Duty / VAT to add when you get back to the UK, unless you want to leave all boxes etc in America, take photos while over there and claim you took it out with you, but if caught it could cost you even more....
Also remember to add the US Tax (which is different from State to State) since US prices don't include this...
I guess it depends on how much you're going to save, you could just buy the extra accessories over there and save some money....0
