Can I clarify one point - you mention 80 hours of work a week - but you are part time. Are you working an 80 hour week - or is hat how long you feel you would need to complete the tasks assigned to you?
I am working 30 hours as an accounts manager managing 3 different companies account and have no team....me,myself and I doing absolutely everything!
Despite several suggestions that I put my hours up to full time so I can get more work done this has been declined they will not employ anybody to help me and it's easily 80-100 hours work I am expected (this never happens) to get done! I'm just at my wits end with it all and on top of that I'm still getting paid minimum wage despite several appraisals and politely requesting a pay rise
Writing it all down like that actually makes me realise in worth a lot more that this but with no where to go and the current employment struggles what can I do? X0 -
Im with the previous posters, find out what work has more of a priority to be done and get that done within the 30 hour week and go home. Its not your fault the employer has work for 2 or more people yet wont employ someone to share the workload. I understand what its like to be in a job you hate as ive been there myself, what you can do is get looking for something else.0

Start refusing to do more than 30 hours work. Why should they pay you extra if you're going to do the work anyway?0

I know the feeling, now what you need to do is to be very organised and very reasonable, and make it a business priority rather than seeing it as a personal failing and then try again with your boss.
1. Write down everything you are expected to do in the next month, put it on a time-line or Gantt chart.
2. Estimate the time to do each task.
3. Prioritise the tasks.
4. Now colour the task in green that you can most definetly can do in the time given
5. Colour the tasks amber that you could do if given the extra 6 hours a week.
5. Colour the tasks red that you will most definetly not be able to do in the time.
Now work out how to present this to your boss:
Your main points may be:
I have done a workplan for the next month and I have some concerns.
My concerns are that unless we find more resources to help that the financial stability of the company could be at risk.
I am able to do an additional 6 hours per week and if I am paid these, it means we can get through the following (amber tasks)
However what I need you to consider is how we are going to get the task highlighted in red done.
You could go further and ask for an assistant, cost out wages etc, and then do a cost/benefit analysis on how this would help you get through the work and what additional benefits there are for the business.
Good luck0 -

This is a really good idea I hadn't thought of this maybe seeing it on paper they will realise it is just impossible!

Hi Miss Scrimper
Gosh, such a complicated situtaion I really feel for you. I think Gibson123's suggestion is brilliant and sicne you're an Account Manager of THREE companies I have no doubt you must have an excellent CV with an awful lot of evidence to demonstrate to a new employer why YOU'REE a better candidate than your competition.
You've got nothing to lose by continuing to look elsewhere while trying to improve the situation with your current employer and often being proactive can at least help your state of mind and help you feel in control again. At the moment I sense you feel, quite understandably, that everyone and everything is controlling you and while I realise your DH is job hunting too and it's good that one of you is bringig in an income, I also realise that it's a big burden when it IS only ONE of you and you have the rent and children to provide for - everyone's demanding more than you can give and however admirably dedicated you are, there just aren't enough hours in the day!
Good luck with your efforts to make a change

Thankyou very much such kind words! My doctor has given me another two weeks off work to try and get the stress and anxiety back to a normal level
SSP is not very good at all compared to what I usually get its under half but I've come to realise that my partner and children need me to be happy and above all healthy so that is my priority at the moment

everyone is in the same boat at the moment & with employers tightening their (money) belts its getting harder for the overworked & underpaid staff to have any sort of a life...by doing the job of 3 is a cost effective way for the business, but its your well being & sanity that is taking the strain.
it might be worth mentioning to your employer your thinking of resigning & if the job is as complicated & stressful as you say, they would find it hard to get someone else to take on 3 accounts & work 80+hrs a week, so may lighten your load (maybe leave a few CV's about you desk or buy the jobs paper saying your looking for your other half etc...)
At the end of the day, we are only human....well, most of us anyway0
