Should I quit my job?? Please help!!!

Hi everyone, wa hoping some of you could give me a nudge in the right direction!

I took a job well over a year ago now and at first I really enjoyed it was happy with my workload and all round very satisfied throughout the last year my relationship with work has got worse and worse more pressure has been piled on and I'm not struggling to do 80 hours of work in the 30 hours my employer thinks is an acceptable amount of time! Im allways stressed and find myself crying before during and after work because it's all just too much! I tried talking to my employer two months ago and was promise that my workload would be sprea out between me and other employees but this has not happened :(

I really don't want to be there anymore it's causing me stress and making me feel physically unwell! I have been off work sick for two weeks now and am due to go back tommorow but I can't find the smallest bit of enthusiasm no matter how much I search :( I'm worried about what my financial situation would be if I quit and that's the only thing that keeps me hanging on I have two children and a partner to provide for! But I feel the stress of work is taking up all my time with them! My boss is also my landlord and have had lots of stress from them as they are trying to sell the house we only moved into 3 months ago :(

Please help before I go completely out of my mind!

Sorry for long ramble.

Thanks in advance L x

Take a deep breathe, and relax. It's not worth getting stressed over work. A lot of businesses at the moment are trying to squeeze every last minute out of their employees. It's the way the world is going.

I suggest you continue to put a shift in, but look for alternate employment elsewhere if it is really that bad.

I would...but...you also need money so it's up to you to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages. Can you get another house to live in quickly? Can you find other work quickly? By quitting you will lose access to benefits for a short period. Do you have enough savings to cover your expenses for at least the next 6 months?

I'd just get on with whatever you can do in the 30 hours of work and just make it clear you can't work any harder. If you are found to be incapable of doing the work the employer could sack you and you would be entitled to benefits.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I have no savings and no access to new housing quickly and have been trying for a few months to secure a new job with no luck!

I just don't know how much longer I can carry in like this its making me feel Ill and becoming a huge stress for my while family!
Thanks for your advice L x

I can relate to how you feel, you just feel trapped with no where to turn, Sadly if you quit as mentioned you won't be entitled to anything, the only option you have now is to change your attitude and how you feel about this job, OK its not perfect but its paying your bills, just keep looking for something else, I've been doing this myself for the past 6 months without much success so I know how you feel, nothing can make you depressed or stressed unless you let it.

Could you join a union? (Depends on what you do, I know but they might be able to help)
  • I think you are suffering Work related stress. I think you should put your cv on job website. And then look for another job while you are still working, this way you still got money coming in. Also as someone mentioned already, if you can, you should join a union and tell them about your workload. They will get a union rep to chat to your boss.

That's exactly how I feel :( I'm sorry your feeling the same way I know how hard it is! It's not that I don't want to work I'm willing to work very hard to provide for my family I'm just giving up all hope of gettin out of this situation and that's what's getting me down the most!

My job is paying the bill......JUST but it's paying the bills and I guess that's what matters Aslong as I stay there I'm safe in the knowledge that my family are clothed fed and warm with a roof over their heads! I will keep trying and hopefully it won't be long before I see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Hope you figure something for yourself to :)

    Thanks L x

I work for a small but fast expanding company an I don't think we have a union! Is there private unions you can join?

    Thanks L x
  • Most industry have union. Which industry are you in?
