Life & Critical Illness suspended - getting twitchy!!

Kicking myself
A little advice please - due to changing banks I missed 2 payments on my cover, and under the T&C my policy was suspended (absolutely stupid of me!!!). Apparently I didn't tell them I moved (certain I did!) - so they carried on taking the monthly payments over the next 5 years, but stopped when the bank advised them of the change as they 'couldn't be sure it was me'.
So I've filled in new paperwork and received a nice letter about my 'current appliation for a change to benefits' (?) and they're awaiting my medical report - nothings changed with my health, had a few tests over the last 5 years because of the scaremongering adverts in the press & on TV - but I am 10 years older so guessing premium will go up.
So my question is, is it worth waiting? Currently I'm getting pretty twitchy about the fact if I get hit by a bus tomorrow I've got nothing in place to pay off my mortgage! I've done some comparison quotes online and they're about £3 more than I've been paying - do I wait, or do I take out a policy with someone else?
