Folksy

Does anyone use Folksy?

One of my newer lines is in an eligible category there and I was having a browse of the site. Is there any way of seeing completed listings as I don't want to waste money listing if my category is a non starter.

I don't think so. I find it quite frustrating to search for anything on Folksy. Have you tried asking on their forums? The sellers on there are very helpful in my experience.

I think I have to register to post on their forums and I am not sure I want to waste time registering on a site just to ask a question as to whether it is worth registering.

I was really just looking for another outlet for my things so I don't have to be almost entirely reliant on eBay.

I haven't yet sold on there myself, but I do get the impression that there aren't yet hoards of customers. I do remember reading a post on the forums where someone pointed out that at the moment the only people visiting Folksy are crafters so you are trying to sell to people who know what things cost and may be able to make those items themselves. I don't think it's at the level that etsy is where non-crafty people know about it.
  • My friend lists stuff on Folksy. She doesn't sell much to be honest, but it's a sideline for her rather than a business. I think it works best when you promote your Folksy stuff elsewhere (i.e. through a facebook page etc.)

I do think it depends on what you're selling though. I think it's more of a specialised selling forum for arts and crafts, rather than just another outlet, if you know what I mean. If it costs nothing to list there, then it might be worth doing it.

It looks quite similar to Etsy. I sell on Etsy quite a bit surprisingly to the UK more than the USA. When I first started on there I'd thought that me majority of my items would be sold to the US market.

Might give it a try though as I've just done a quick search and there is someone else selling a similar, but inferior product to mine.

It does cost to list there unless you pay a yearly fee of £30. I'm not sure I'll bother , I do have Facebook for some sales and eBay is still going well I just thought I ought to have at least one more market just in case - and a new line I am looking at would be allowed on folksy.

I sell on Folksy, it is slow, but cheaper than ebay, it's only 15p to list an item for a few months, then selling percentage is cheaper than ebay. You might get some different customers on there that don't go to ebay, so might be worth investing a few pence and see how it goes.
Trouble is I do love Folksy and Etsy and end up buying more than I sell!
If you don't try it you never know!
