Card security, I've said this before, but worth repeating.

I've tried to reduce my attack surface area by
1. scratching off the cv2 number from all my cards and storing them in an encrypted database.
2. Never use cards that I use online to use in a store - these never leave my safe.
3. Use different cards to business / pleasure. If I see other fuel, hotel, rail, flights on my business card, I can quickly determine its veracity.
3a Rental cars I use another separate card, as often they pre-load it.
4. Spread my risk across a number of banks.
5. Never use a debit card, except to obtain cash.
6. Regularly change pin numbers - especially after using a chip and pin machine.
7. Only carry a small number of cards in the same place.
7a. Sometimes I keep an emergency card in the sole of my shoe.
8. Only use banks that use a token, 2 factor code to log in.
9.Use a prepay card when travelling - limit how much you can lose.

Even with all this
I have been scammed recently , when an unauthorised contactless transaction was made at some hotel bar, for a small amount, sub £2, but about 50 people were victim, the bank automatically blocked it and phoned me.

I have now disabled the wave function, where I could, and closed bank accounts who cannot disable the contactless.

Many of the above are probably against the banks terms and conditions.

    Paranoid or what ?

I never do any of those things, i've had fraud once in the last 40 years of banking, that was when my handbag was stolen and they managed to use my card before i managed to report it. I was burgled at 3am, didn't know till we got up !

Let me guess it was in the USA... And at a guess was not a contactless transaction, but a swiped one. But is showong as contactless as no pin was used.

    I like this...
    6. Regularly change pin numbers - especially after using a chip and pin machine.
So you then change it at a chip & pin machine.....
I think you need to stop being so paranoid about fraud.....

Or stop using banks and simply carry cash. As you are aware everytime you use your card it is exposed to some little scrote taking the details.
Never ASSUME anything its makes a

    Possibly (1) ?

(7a) made me smile...was it serious!?

    Should I feel vulnerable...

I have 2 PINs...one for all my credit cards and another for all my debit cards. Same ones for 30 years.

Carry 3 debit cards and 3 credit cards at all times.

Never been "scammed" or had any issues in well over 30 years of banking.

Must admit, I agree with some of them. I never use a debit card to make a purchase unless it's impossible not to or there is a large fee for doing so, in which case, I'll pre-load my Barclays current account and use that (typically, its empty).

Same goes for ATM, each week I transfer money to my Nationwide account and then withdraw it from a bank which has ATMs inside (never use an outside ATM).

When shopping, I take 2 CCs and a DC. The DC is in case my CC fails and I've already got the goods (eg. fuel).

    I don't do 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9...

Strikes me as a bit belt 'n' braces but each to their own.
I never use a cashpoint, but I do pay for my shopping with a DC and get cashback probably once a month, I rarely spend cash except for parking so never need more than about £20 in my purse per month.

Like the idea of scratching the cv2 numbers off though.
