Working Tax Credit when stopped Tax Code question

Hi

Wonder if anybody knows what happens when elligibility for Working Tax Credit ceases. Back when it first came into being my husbands tax allowance was reduced and the money paid as the child tax and working tax credits. I have twins who are reaching the age when I will not be entitled one finishing college and one decided to go into work and finish college early.

My question is does the tax allowance for I presume us classed as just married tax allowance start up or increase or is it a total loss of the benefits we have paid.

If its an increase, do we notify the IR or do the Working Tax office adjust it?

Thanks:)

There is no such thing as married tax allowance anymore, his tax code should have been 810 and will not change.

WTC does not affect your tax code. It's a separately paid benefit, don't let the name confuse you!

When it first started my husband was on a higher tax code definitely, it was reduced and the WTC was then paid, if I remember it was to give mums access to cash as well. I just wondered how it had changed as we draw to the end of it, thanks for all the help.

In the early days WTC could get paid through the employer...but that stopped in around 2004/5 or thereabouts IIRC.
  • WTC and CTC replaced the tax allowance in the tax code for children (as well as the old Working Family Tax Credit system). That allowance was only around for a couple of years.
Married Couple's Allowance ceased a bit earlier and is only available to couples where one was born before 5th April 1935
