Could I live with my conscience if OH reports Landlord?

I always reported my landlords in the past, especially when they sell property. I pay my taxes, why shouldn't they?
Most amatuer landlords believe they are immune from tax. Most have jobs so the fact they are already legitimately paying tax on their day jobs masks their BTLs. Why should the taxman be suspicious when the household already has a taxpayer? It's the perfect camouflage.
I was speaking to a senior tax inspect last month and he told me it's a nightmare hunting down BTL landlords. The Revenue spend their time scouring ads in local newspapares and rely heavily on anonymous phone calls apparantly, most of which prove well founded.

If he's ripping off the tax man then he's ripping off everyone in the country who does pay the tax they owe. If you report him then you're definitely doing the right thing, your conscience shouldn't have a problem with it at all.0

Don't even think about it - report him! I am going to do the very same thing to the sleaze bag that has chosen not to repay over £2000 deposit to me.
And forget about the Small claims court. I have found it to be a complete waste of time. I got a CCJ against our landlord and the bailiffs have been round to his house several times. He knows if he doesn't answer the door there is nothing they can do. This guy is not some down on his luck sort of chap - he lives in a very nice part of SW London where properties sell for about £1 million and in his spare time plays polo (not what you would consider a poor mans sport) Oh yes - and he also has 8 CCJ's against him!
People like this do not have a conscience so why worry.

I've th0ught of nothing else! I cannot get a charging order against his property as it is is in his wife's name. His business is in his wife's name. His business bank account is also only in his wife's name. I don't think this guy has any assets solely in his name so to go down the bankruptcy route would only mean I would be throwing more good money away. I might be a bit thick but surely if HE is your LANDLORD then doesn't he own the propertry you are in? If its in his wifes name could you not sue her?

The problem is that it was my daughter who rented the property from him, together with friends, I was the guarantor. When they moved out of the property he strung us along saying he would pay back the deposit and before we knew it, the property was sold before we could put a charging order on it. His house (where he lives and as far as I know the only property he has) is in his wife's name. The tenancy agreement was with him so cannot chase his wife for the money. Unless someone knows differently!
I don't know if he has any other assets and don't know how to find out.
The bailiffs cannot force entry into his house and seize anything if he does not open the door. And he knows it!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Sorry, with you now. I'm no expert (hopefully someone on here is) but if he sold his house recently then transferred the money to his wifes name then I think you could still get at it.
There was a case in Scotland last year where a politician called Tommy Sheridan sued the News of the World over an article they printed - he won in the end - it was reported in one of the papers that he transferred his house into his wifes name in case he lost and had to pay both sets of legal fees, but a "legal expert" in one of the papers said transferring the house wouldn't have mattered as it had happened in the last 2? years and could be reversed/challenged at a bankruptcy hearing.
Like I say I'm no expert, I just hope you get your money back, I was stung by a cowboy landlord when I was young but I'm still bl**dy annoyed!You can't go wrong with carpet bombing...0
