Before reporting them to the police/ council etc, why not go and speak to them?
Yeah, That'll work.:)

Within hours family and friends will be arriving to enjoy a cold chicken buffet along with a raspberry and sherry trifle.
So, all you wood-be gardeners looking at this site for tips on what and what not to do, please remember that there are laws regarding this sort of behaviour.
Indeed, who on earth used raspberries instead of strawberries. I'd have been on to the police straightaway0 -
and from my ash laden garden!. yes by early evening, the bonfire had subsided and all over my garden, with it's features that I'm kinda proud of, lay ash on every leaf and crevice. I couldn't face the site of it so went out for a walk. On my return various members of the family who by now had arrived, had brushed, swept, dusted (would you believe) leaves and foliage.
On looking out of a window I can see there is still some left to burn, but more than that, there is a pile of ash, about 2ft high and 6ft across. That has to go somewhere. Wind will bring about further issues, rain won't remove that amount, and "they" will not use common sence and either bag it up or bury it.
On the subject of "talking to them". That is a non-starter. We do pass the time of day with them, we do listen as there is no alternative when they shout and row and swear. We also remember their words once "please don't tell the council that so & so is living here, as they will stop all benefits". So emotional blackmail is used as she has two kids, but readily admits not by her current partner.
I will suggest they have a problem disposing of the ash and offer bags, just to see what they say and no doubt will let you know. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I really hope this is not a sign of things to come.
In Ireland since they changed over to the "pay for the waste you send to landfill" system the instances of people lighting bonfires has increased dramatically and that includes people igniting plastic bottles and all sorts of nasties. Doesn't bear thinking about.0 -

All fires are serious and this one could quite easily have become out of control as the people having it sounded very careless. Better to call in the professionals and that way the neighbours would also have had a warning without having to tackle them head on.
If another shout had come through while the fire service were dealing with this problem they would have either called out another engine or moved on. Better for them to be doing some community liason (apart from fitting smoke alarms which they seem to be doing a lot of round my way!) than sitting in the fire station which is what happens on most shifts.0
