Grill coil appearing to smoke/burn in new Bosch double oven

I have a Bosch double oven which is only a month old and hasn't been used very much yet. The main oven is a fan oven and is fine. The top small oven/grill isn't a fan oven and the coil appears to smoke/give a burnt smell when in use as oven or grill. I am not sure whether this is normal when it is new. There are no instructions for cleaning the coil at all. It tells me that the top of the oven is self cleaning and oven cleaner should not be used.

My Dad has a similar model and says that he only uses the top oven for the grill/warming plates.

  • it's probably just oil used as a protective coating in storage burning off.

A plastic scourer and some w.u.liquid would be fine to clean the element when it's cold.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

As above, it is likely that the element came oiled. Crank the grill up to the highest heat, open the kitchen window/ turn on the extractor fan and let it run for a good five minutes and it should burn it off. I wouldn't think that using anything to clean it would be necessary.

Thanks. Will try that. Instructions did say to put the oven on hot for an hour but i thought it only meant the main oven. Have just looked at the instructions again and think they meant both ovens. Will do it tomorrow.

As above - all new ovens and hobs need to have all elements set to maximum for at least 5 minutes, or preferably until the oven has reached it's maximum temperature and the thermostat switches the element off, which also confirms the thermostat is working properly.

This also applies if an element has been replaced.

Don't clean the element - it's totally unnecessary, and if you use washing up liquid it is likely to rust, as washing up liquid contains salt.

I did set the top oven on high (though not quite maximum) this morning for about 30 mins. I didn't attempt to clean it at all. I will do it again on max for 5 mins.
