Hi All
Got an old laptop FS Eprimo v5535 and recently it wouldn't boot up.
In the bios under the Main tab it says there is no HDD or CD/DVD. Also when I went to Advanced tab it said Serial ATA Controller, IDE Channel & LAN controller were all disabled, I have enabled them and recooted but still no joy.
Have checked HDD is secure too.
Any help would be very much appreciated please.
Thanks

Dry joint on southbridge chipset at a guess. Has it been getting hot?0

Thanks notmyrealname
When I opened a rear cover to check connections last night I noticed the ridged silver thing, possibly heat distributor, that sits above a large chip had snapped away on 1 leg so I suspect you are right.
Is there anything I can do? Would just go and order part but as I haven't a clue what it is called that may be difficult!
Thanks0 -
If you are referring to the processor heatsink, and it's not properly attached, then you may have fried the processor. No free lunch, and no free laptop

The heatsink can be replaced but the damage is done. There are plenty of people who do motherboard repairs from £30 where they'll reflow the solder below the chip. This should sort it if it is otherwise working.
