I hope someone can help.
A friend has an advent netbook 4214. They run tech guys recovery on it, it restarted and now on every start up it only gets as far as a blue screen with the message
stop: c0000137 (privilege failed)
The i/o permissions for the process could not be changed
Just before this message a screen pops up where you can select windows xp or tech guys recovery start up. The tech guy selection is already highlighted and it is only on for a split second so she can't select the other option. Someone suggested trying to start the netbook in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 from start up but she can't seem to get this to work. Shes asked me for advice but I'm really not very tech savvie, lol
Any suggestions??
Many thanks for your time

She'll have to be speedier in selecting the XP option or will have to consider re-installing XP via external optical disc....as I'm sure that she hasn't backed up the Recovery partition to a USB drive.
Did they run a Destructive Factory Restore?0 -
Thanks for your reply!
They tried to run Tech guys recovery back up in view to run the tech guy recovery. She selected recovery back up, clicked ok, it then restarted the netbook and this is when the blue screen came up and shes not been able to do anything further.
From what i gather they had been having trouble with it after the son downloaded lots of stuff to it and it kept coming up with lots of error messages. She thought she was doing the right thing by doing a back up first but it would seem not!0 -
If they have important stuff to back up, she can do so by running a 'Live CD' OS such as the Try Ubuntu option using a USB drive. Ubuntu. They can then use another USB drive to transfer and store any important info.
Then they can run the Destructive Recovery. When the PC starts you will see a menu for two seconds. Press the UP or DOWN arrow and this will pause the menu and allow you to choose an option.
Highlight The TechGuys Recovery and press the Enter key.
This will load into the recovery program.
Select Reinstall Windows by clicking on the circle to the left.
Click the right arrow.
Put a tick in the box next to Start Full Destructive Recovery.
Click the right arrow to start Recovery.
When Recovery has completed, click the right arrow to restart the system.
Your computer will then return you to its initial out-of-box experience.
orRunning System Recovery from outside of Windows
1. When the PC starts you must to press repeatedly the F8 function key to see the Windows Boot Manager. There, press the UP or DOWN arrow and this will pause the menu and allow you to choose an option.
2. Highlight The TechGuys Recovery and press the Enter key.
3. This will load into the recovery program.
4. Select Reinstall Windows by clicking on the circle to the left.
5. Click the right arrow.
6. Put a tick in the box next to Start Full Destructive Recovery.
7. Click the right arrow to start Recovery.
8. When Recovery has completed, click the right arrow to restart the system.
9. Your computer will then return you to its initial out-of-box experience.
Note: The System Recovery utility will reinstall all hardware and software supplied with your Advent Netbook.0 -
Thanks again!
The F8 thing is what shes been trying but can't get to work. Not sure if its just a timing thing or maybe the F8 button isn't working, who knows!!
Not sure they've tried the arrow thing to pause it, will suggest it when I see her later. Fingers crossed it works lol.
Thanks once again0 -
You have to repeatedly tap F8, not hold it down.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”
