3 points on Liscense /Direct Line charge :( help

It has been bothering me for a while, I have been with Direct Line for years, a loyal customer with 17 years no claims, I've never found fault with them and have always been happy with the 28.00 a month I paid for a the benefits I required from them being a working mum.
Last I got 3 points Autumn 2011,for doing 37 in a 30, I rang Direct Line, and was informed that I would be heavily penalised for having 3 Points:( my payments went from 28 p.m to just over 65.00 My partner says that is ridiculous it's like 200% more, I am aware that the general thing is some companies just want informing and don't charge but the average hike in your insurance can be around 15-20% I think Mine is clearly a lot more than that.
I've had enough now, I can't afford what I pay and I am shopping elsewhere but after I have rang a couple of other companies I have quotes from on price comparison sites, I am going to ring Direct line if i get a lesser quote and challenge what they are charging me...
I've not got any convictions other than those 3 points.
All they said at the time was... oh don't worry it will go down each year again, provided you get no more points..
any advice out there from anyone or on insurance companies who don't charge and do I have an argument to challenge Direct line. I feel stupid for paying the amount I have been on my little car.... but with having babies and being a working mum and running a family time to sort it just hasn't been on my side till now
HELP...Anyone x many thanks

If it's cheaper move companies.0

If you find a cheaper quote you can ask DL to match it (or just move), whether they will do is another thing entirely.0

In England, such an offence (upto 42 in a 30) is normally dealt with by way of a course offer. Scotland has no course facilities, sadly.I am a mortgage broker. Loyalty _never_ pays. It's a myth that people continue foolishly to believe. Just get some quotes and see if DL will match it, if - as is probable - they won't, simply move insurers. It's a doddle.
Oh, and unless your insurers says otherwise, don't disclose your points until renewal. It's only usually in the event of a driving ban (through points or direct ban) that your insurer needs to be informed immediately (check your paperwork of course for exactly what needs disclosing).
Oh, and don't pay monthly. Pay it in one go. £300 isn't much to pay off in one go, and will save you money as you're not paying the insurers inflated APR for monthly payments.
Good luck!0 -
