How to "DIY" cut glass for frame?

We have a lovely picture frame but it needs a piece of glass cut to size.
We have old frames with larger glass which we don't need. Is there any way we could try to cut the glass ourselves at home? What tools would we need and any tips - we don't need the other glass so figure it may be worth a try as if it goes wrong it won't matter.
We have the usual assortment of DIY tools but nothing of a "specialist" nature...any tips/advice - will wear protective eye and hand gear!

Forget it, glass hardens with age and is not easy to "re cut"
This is an attempt at saving money where money is clearly a minor issue.
Get new glass, it's not expensive.
That's the sensible economic view, but;
If you do want the challenge, as you said full PPE. And,
A simple glass cutter, a wheel or diamond scriber, both work, good luck.
PS, mark the face side and tap on the reverse.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Dip the end of the glasscutter in white spirit to lubricat the cutter.Its easier to cut a wider piece off than a narrow piece so if your cutting by less than 25mm you may need to "nibble" pieces off with pliers after scoring it with the cutter.If your cutting a wider piece off then score with the glasscutter,then put a matchstick or something similar under each end of the glass where you have scored the glass and push down each side of the matchstick and it should cut in two.
As mentioned older glass can be a pig to cut but worth a go.0
